Bala Jillian Berber, RYT-200, has taught at the NJ IYI for over eight years and teaches our Monday evening Multi-Level Hatha class. She is also certified to lead children’s yoga classes.
Bala found Integral Yoga after practicing Sivananda Yoga for 10 years. During and after her pregnancies, she explored restorative, prenatal, and postnatal classes to support her through the physical changes of pregnancy and motherhood. One class introduced her to chanting, and she immediately felt drawn to it. At her teacher’s suggestion, Bala came to the NJ IYI to explore chanting further. “I have been home ever since,” she shares. Soon after, Bala began her teacher training and went on to become a teacher.
Learning and practicing pranayama with Margabandhu has changed Bala’s life. Over the years, her practice has deepened, and she shares that she now fully depends on it. Bala also loves Puja and feels especially alive when sharing this experience with the NJ IYI sangha.
When she’s not practicing or teaching yoga, Bala can be found zooming off to karate, ultimate frisbee, basketball, and climbing tournaments with her three boys—and trying to convince them that yoga would help with all of it.
